For newly hired employees, most benefits are effective on your date of hire. However, certain benefits such as Voluntary Life Insurance may have a delayed start date. These provisions can be found within the section of the Benefits Manual that describes the benefit program.

There are certain times during the year when you may enroll in benefits or make changes to your benefit selections.

Within 30 days of your date of hire, or a change in employment status that makes you eligible for benefits; During the open enrollment period held in the fall of each year, or; Within 30 days of a Qualifying Life Event.
