GBH WORLD and Count Me In, a nonprofit initiative that engages patients to accelerate cancer research, are partnering to create a live storytelling event that spotlights true experiences with cancer, healthcare disparities and the power of self-advocacy.

On Wednesday, February 15, 2023, Stories from the Stage: Living with Cancer will bring together patients, doctors and researchers with direct experience in cancer detection, treatment and survival for a special evening of live storytelling at GBH Studios in Brighton, Massachusetts. Produced by GBH WORLD, public media’s premier platform for diverse stories, Stories from the Stage, the multi-platform award-winning series, invites ordinary people to share extraordinary experiences.

Stories from the Stage: Living with Cancer will be an uplifting evening of transformational storytelling from those who have faced cancer as well as those working for cancer equity initiatives capable of unlocking discoveries for all patients. The stories will be broadcast as two new episodes of Stories from the Stage on Monday, June 5 and Monday, June 12 for National Cancer Survivors Month on GBH 2 locally and on 191 WORLD Channel stations nationally.

This event is presented in partnership with Count Me In, a nonprofit research initiative that hopes to make every patient's experience count in the fight to overcome cancer. Founded in 2018 by the Emerson Collective, Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, as well as Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Count Me In empowers patients to accelerate cancer research by sharing their experiences, clinical information and even samples. “Live storytelling has the power to astonish - make us laugh, cry and open our hearts to new experiences,” said Liz Cheng, GBH General Manager for Television and Co-Executive Producer of Stories from the Stage. “We are so fortunate to work with our partner, Count Me In, to help us discover tellers from underrepresented communities, who share how their struggles and triumphs have changed the trajectories of their lives and others dealing with cancer.”

“This partnership provides a wonderful and unique opportunity to lift up the most marginalized voices - to bring the stories of patients, loved ones, and beyond - to the public in a most impactful way,” said Colleen Nguyen, Manager of Community Engagement and Cancer Equity at Count Me In.

Stories from the Stage: Living with Cancer takes place Wednesday, February 15 at 6:30pm at GBH Studios in Brighton. Tickets for the live taping are $50 and can be purchased at wgbh.org/events
