Parking and transportation

Options for monthly parking: 

1. Yellow Garage (for Cambridge campus): Subsidized rate of $190.00 per month. Garage is assigned based on employee location and availability.

To enroll in monthly parking, complete the application for monthly and carpool parking. New enrollments or changes must be made by the second Friday of the month to be effective for the following month. 

• Depending on where you would like to park, there may be a waiting list for regular parking. Once your application is received, you will either be assigned parking or your name will be added to this waitlist.
• Monthly parking passes may be picked up from the 415M, or 75A,  front desks on the first business day following their application submission.
• Monthly parkers may begin parking as soon as they receive their monthly parking passes.
• Those enrolled in monthly parking or the carpool program are not eligible to receive daily passes.

Parking fees for monthly parking can be paid via payroll deduction on a monthly basis if you are a Broad employee. Payroll deductions for monthly parking are pre-tax and cannot be combined with other Broad transportation subsidies (ex. monthly MBTA passes). Non-Broad-paid parkers must pay in full upfront by check made out to the Broad Institute. 
 

Broad offers daily passes to park in the Green Garage located across from the Stanley Building at the rate of $15 per pass. 

To enroll in daily parking, complete the application for daily parking. You may purchase up to 10 daily parking passes per month, in increments of 2, as part of your monthly benefits order.

• New enrollments or changes must be made by the second Friday of the month to be effective for the following month. Passes may be picked up from the 415M, or 75A front desks on the first business day of the month. 
• The number of passes you request is a "standing" order that repeats each month. To change the number of daily parking passes you receive, or to cancel your daily parking pass order, complete the daily parking change form. 
• For benefits-eligible Broadies: Daily parking payment deductions are post-tax and can be combined with other Broad transportation subsidies (ex. monthly MBTA passes). To get reimbursed for this parking expense, employees may add pre-tax funds to a HealthEquity (formerly WageWorks) Parking Pay Me Back account.
• Those enrolled in monthly parking or the carpool program are not eligible to receive daily passes.
   

Visitor parking is offered for Affiliated Associate Members, Senior Associate Members, Institute Members, and Core Faculty through a Broad subsidized parking voucher (parking validation). Email parking@broadinstitute.org for more information.

Broad offers a carpool program for all full-time Broad employees and associated personnel. Carpool members enjoy a higher subsidy in addition to the normal parking subsidy, decreasing their annual cost by an additional 50% for monthly parking options. This program provides an opportunity to carpool with Broad-affiliated institutions (MIT, Harvard, Whitehead) and pre-approved Kendall Sq. businesses; the primary member assumes all responsibilities for this benefit. Applicants for carpooling receive priority access to available parking. 

• If you are NOT currently enrolled in monthly parking at Broad and want to enroll in Broad’s carpool program: Complete the application for monthly and carpool parking. New enrollments or changes must be made by the second Friday of the month to be effective for the following month. 
• All carpool spaces are located on the north side of the garage and are labelled as so. If you choose to enroll in the carpooling program please fill out this form in order to obtain a parking tag to hang in your car. 
• If you are currently enrolled in monthly parking and want to enroll in Broad’s carpool program: Email parking@broadinstitute.org. New enrollments or changes must be made by the second Friday of the month to be effective for the following month. 
• Those enrolled in monthly parking or the carpool program are not eligible to receive daily passes.

Broad offers several bike cages across our campus in order to best support our biking community. To access any of the Broad bike cages simply use your Broad issued ID on the entrance card reader. Please contact Security with any questions or concerns about bicycle storage. Broad also offers a bicycle reimbursement program through HealthEquity (formerly WageWorks). Yellow Garage - 3 cages* (click here for a map)

• Cage #1 location: First floor (street level) Yellow Garage, 415 Main side.
  • Broad-only cage. Access with Broad ID. Camera surveillance.
     
• Cage #2 location: First floor (street level) Yellow Garage, 75 Ames side.
  • Shared by all of Kendall Sq. and owned/operated by Boston Properties. Access with Broad ID.  
     
• Cage #3 location: Basement of the Yellow Garage: down the ramp, straight ahead on the right side. This cage has power outlets and a new scooter storage rack for easy charging.
  • Broad-only cage. Access with Broad ID. Camera surveillance. 

300 Binney - 1 cage

• Location: First floor, parking storage room, room 1088 on linked map.
• Broad-only cage and repair station. Access with Broad ID. Camera surveillance.

*Note: Broad-only cages allow you to store your bike for up to two weeks; the other cages do not allow long-term storage. If you plan to store your bicycle in any of the Broad-only cages for longer than two weeks, email security@broadinstitute.org. Cages are periodically audited to ensure that adequate bicycle storage exists.

Broad encourages commuting by bike, skateboard, and/or scooter. Due to safety issues, we ask that Broadies store their bicycles, large skateboards, and scooters in one of our many bike cages (see above). 

• Bicycles, large skateboards, and all scooters, including non-automated, gas- and electric-powered scooters are prohibited from being brought into any Broad building. You may store small skateboards in a Broad building, but you must be able to carry it into the building and store it safely under your desk in order to bring it into any Broad building. 
• Storage of bicycles or scooters in any common area lobby, service area, stairwell, or corridor is prohibited. 
• The Broad is not responsible for theft or damage of bicycles or other personal property left in these bicycle cages.

The EZRide Shuttle connects Cambridgeport, Kendall Square, and East Cambridge to Boston's North Station. Any Broadie can ride for free. Visit the EZRide website for more information.

ERH provides access to an Uber ride from a Broad facility to your home or medical facility when an emergency situation occurs. This program is available to all members of the Broad community.

When the ERH program can be used

Eligible "emergency" situations may include:

• If you become ill while at work, and you need a ride home or to a medical facility.
• A member of your immediate family is sick or injured.
• A personal crisis such as a death of a family member.
• Your home is damaged by fire, flood, burglary, etc.
• Unscheduled extended hours required by a supervisor that is beyond public transportation schedules.
• Your carpool driver has to unexpectedly leave early or stay late.
• You’re working late and don’t feel safe walking home or taking public transit.

When the ERH program cannot be used

You may use the ERH program only for situations as described above. Examples of situations that are not eligible in this program are:

• Prescheduled extended work hours or appointments.
• Trips to the hospital in place of ambulance service.
• Business-related trips.
• Weather-related events such as early work closure.
• Personal errands.
• Transportation for events that are planned in advance, such as after-hours meetings.
• A scheduled school or daycare cancellation/closing.
• Public transportation delays.

How to arrange an Emergency Ride Home

Speak to Security 24/7 at the first-floor front desks of 415M, or 75A and explain that you need an emergency ride. If it is for an eligible emergency, the front desk will arrange for an Uber.

There are public parking facilities near the Institute’s facilities in Kendall Square, which are available for a fee. These parking facilities are not operated by the Institute, and rates are subject to change without notice.

1. Abuse of the parking program will result in loss of all parking privileges and may be subject to further review by the Institute.
2. Parking assignments are distributed based on availability.
3. Parkers may not switch their parking assignments with another parker, either in the short term or the long term.
4. Those with regular or carpool parking must report in writing a change in the make or model of the car or new license plate number to the Broad Parking Coordinator within 15 days.
5. The annual parking fees are not negotiable.
6. Daily Parking Passes are not for resale under any circumstances. Abuse of any kind will result in immediate suspension from the parking program.
7. If a parker's vehicle is towed from a Broad-assigned lot or garage because it is improperly parked, the parker bears the entire cost of the tow and resultant storage.
8. Parkers may not leave their vehicle overnight on any Broad-assigned lot or garage without first receiving permission from Broad Security.
9. Daily parking assignments are ONLY for the Green Garage, located directly across from the Stanley Building (75 Ames). Passes are not for the Yellow garage, directly behind the Merkin Building (415 Main). The Broad is not responsible for costs resulting from parking in the wrong garage.
10. All parking fees will be reviewed annually and may increase as the Institute deems appropriate. You may cancel parking at any time by emailing parking@broadinstitute.org.
