Broad Alert is a mass notification system that quickly distributes urgent messages related to workplace safety and perceived threats to persons and property. The system is one element within a multi-pronged, institute-wide emergency and crisis management plan.
You will receive messages from Broad Alert only when urgent action is required or safety is at stake, or during a test of the system. It will be used to notify you of perceived or potential threats to persons or property that arise from severe weather or other emergencies. Situations in which one might expect to receive notifications include but are not limited to:
- Weather-related building closures
- Police actions
- Widespread power outages
- Environmental hazards
- Evacuations
In the event of an emergency or weather-related building closure, the Broad Alert system will try to reach you using each of the contact channels that Broad Human Resources has on file for you, which may include any or all of the following:
- Text message
- Call to mobile phone
- Email to primary address
- Email to alternative address
- Call to home phone
- Call to work phone
Staggered messages will be sent (about one minute apart) to your phone numbers and email addresses in the order they are listed above.
The alert will include instructions for confirming receipt. Once you confirm receipt of a message, Broad Alert will make no further attempts to deliver the alert by other channels. If you do not confirm receipt of the message, Broad Alert will send notifications to every number and address you have on file.
